Dispute with the CRA showing proof of the correct DOFD.
Seems like others have disputed with the CRAs, but I couldn't even guess as to the fax number.
1. Be sure you have the actual DOFD that was was actually reported, not some interpretation based on other info.
You can get that from some credit reports, or by direct request to the CRA,
If the DOFD is relevant to a charge-off, it was required to have been reported by the OC within 90days of their reporting of their charge-off.
If the DOFD is also or only relevant to a collection, the debt collector was required to have reported the DOFD within 90 days of reporting of their collection.
So, who reported, and what date they reported. Their specific requirements for reporting of a DOFD are set forth in FCRA 623(a)(5).
2. Have your own accout records to show when the actual DOFD occured.
The party who reported the DOFD can verify the accuracy based on their own records, so you need documentation to support a dispute of incorrect reporting.
They dont have to "prove" the accuracy of their reporting in order to verify, so give them all supporting documenttion as part of the dispute, or verification will usually result.
"Wrong" is an assertion that needs documentary support to challenge.
