Duplicate and SOL??

Hi All

Can anyone show me how to determine if these are 2 CA's reporting for the same OC or is one the OC and the other a CA?

If they are both CA's for the same account and the oldest shows a "open date" of 8/2005, shouldnt they both be removed due to SOL?

Re: Duplicate and SOL??

Do you not know the approximate time you defaulted on your card?

It looks to me like CIGPFICORP is reporting as OC, since they are listing "Account charged off, $1770 written off". Also they are reporting a 'recent balance' of $0, indicating they have sold the debt. The opened date of 08/2005 would be when the credit card account was first opened - just a couple of months before Providian was purchased by WaMu. Washington Mutual, in turn went belly up in 2008, most of their banking assets being purchased by JP Morgan Chase. From the fall off date of Feb/2018 it would appear you defaulted on the account in mid-2010, is that about right?

Your original Providian credit card would have changed to WaMu shortly after you got it, and then to Chase in 2008 - does that follow your recollections of the account?

Re: Duplicate and SOL??

NormanFH,

I also just realized there a 3rd record on the report for the same account, but there is a different account number. Would this one be considered a duplicate?

Re: Duplicate and SOL??

Yup, thats a third report of the same item. Copy the pertinant sections of the report, and send it to them (use the address on the credit file), with the instructions to remove the duplicate entry, since by law only the original creditor and the CA with CURRENT collection authority are allowed to report an unpaid debt/collection.

Re: Duplicate and SOL??

Is it legal for SST/CIGPFICORP to report as the OC?

Re: Duplicate and SOL??

These three entities are all interconnected/subsidiaries related to NCO Financial. Only they really know 'who is who' regarding OC and collection divisions. LIke I said, send them a letter showing all three reportings and and reference the law saying only the OC and one CA may report a delinquent debt.
