Duplicate hits on CR

Is there anything in the FCRA or any other act/law/regulation that prohibits CAs from negatively reporting to the credit bureaus an account sold to them from a CC. For example my CR shows one credit card very late as I stopped paying, the account was sold to Portfolio Recovery Associated who shows the account open, delinquent, and late. How is it fair that the CC reports it late and now the CA can also do the same? I am being negatively impacted by the same account twice. Is there any way to rectify this? Thanks for the info!

Unfortunately this is completely legal and also quite common. It can actually get worse though ~ if you were sued for the debt and lost in court then you'd also have a judgement to deal with.

I'd try and negotiate a PFD with the CA.

Re: Duplicate hits on CR

I have one account that has placed a judgment on my record... It has been "satisfied" but nevertheless it remains there indefinitely.

I'd suggest reading the following:

Common Abbreviations

Credit Scoring 101 - great for knowing what is in your credit score and to see how your score is impacted.

What Steps Do I Take - great for learning the repair process.

and Example letters - PFDs, GWs, DVs, etc.
