EQUIFAX MTG Hard inquiry???

I just received an alert that transunion has added a hard inquiry to my report.... EQUIFAX MTG is the business name.  Common sense tells me this is Equifax Mortgage, but I'm not shopping for a mortgage right now.... nor have I been for the past several years....

Can they do this? Luckily it didn't affect my score, but I don't want a bunch of useless "hard inquiries" on my reports....

Can I get this removed?

Any party must provide, when requesting your CR, a statement of their permissible purpose, which must be one of the permissible purposes set forth under FCRA 604.

You can, under the provisions of FCRA 609(a)(1), request that the CRA provide you any information of record in your credit file.

You can request a copy of their statement of permissible purpose, and then proceed with your decision as to whether it was permissible.
