Equifax dispute time

I disputed an inaccurate item on my Equifax CR through their website. I got my credit report from their online dispute process, and made the dispute. It was processing and said the estimated completion date was 30 days from when it was submitted.

Now it is past the 30 days and it is still pending. I thought only 45 days was for if you got your CR from annualcreditreport.com, which I didn't.

What can I do now? Its past 30 days and the dispute is still pending. I should have mailed it in! I knew it!!

Re: Equifax dispute time

They can take up to 45 days regardless of how they got it.  The 45 days through annualcreditreport.com is automatic, but it's not like it's exclusive to them.

Re: Equifax dispute time

I was under the impression that after the time limit, they had to delete the disputed information.  Someone want to confirm?

No, it is only 30 days.  They will add another 2 weeks if you send in paperwork and inquire about it.

The free reports are the only ones that have 45 days from the get go.

Re: Equifax dispute time

So they didn't delete it after 30 days.... what can I do? Should I call them and demand that they delete it now?

Re: Equifax dispute time

It says that it is just currently being investigated. Today is actually day 45. So IDK if it will be completed after today or not.

If they can't verify the information, then they usually delete the whole TL, right?

Re: Equifax dispute time

When you make an online dispute you accept fine print that includes the 45 days.

FCRA says differently:  And as stated above, if the consumer provides more information during the 30 days, another 15 days can be added.

611. Procedure in case of disputed accuracy

(A)

In general

. Subject to subsection (f), if the completeness or accuracy of any

item of information contained in a consumer's file at a consumer reporting

agency is disputed by the consumer and the consumer notifies the agency

directly, or indirectly through a reseller, of such dispute, the agency shall,

free of charge, conduct a reasonable reinvestigation to determine whether

the disputed information is inaccurate and record the current status of the

disputed information, or delete the item from the file in accordance with

paragraph (5), before the end of the 30-day period beginning on the date on

which the agency receives the notice of the dispute from the consumer or

reseller

The free reports have an automatic 45 days

(3)

a reinvestigation under that section by a consumer reporting agency upon a

request of a consumer that is made after receiving a consumer report under this

subsection shall be completed not later than 45 days after the date on which the

request is received.
