Exciting Update!

Background: I have 5 collection accounts (all with zero balances, I've been sending off GW letters at least once a month), I did have 6 but one was recently removed due to a GW letter! Yay! I had 11 bad accounts when I started rebuilding my credit in March of this year. 5 were removed after disputing due to wrong information. I also have one 90 day late reporting on a student loan from a year ago. I applied and received a Capital One secured card of $200 in March of this year, never late, low utilization. I applied last month for another Capital One card, and was approved for a $300 (unsecured) CC. (first unsecured card, it was exciting!) At the same time I also applied for a NFCU CC and was approved for a $4000 CL!! I was ecstatic!

So I now have my 3 CC's that I've read over and over about being recommended for rebuilders like myself. Well, I was having a problem with not having a mix of accounts (no installment loans), I applied through NFCU for a car loan and was APPROVED today!! I'm so happy! I've never had a loan without a co-signer! I was approved for $19,200 with a 6.79% interest rate! I think this is great considering my scores are still very low. Now I will be keeping a low utilization, making extra payments on my new car loan, and gardening for at least 6-12 months! Hopefully at that point I'll be high enough to be on a home loan with my husband (he has perfect credit). This is very exciting to me!! I'm finally much much closer to where I need to be! Smiley Happy

Thanks for all the helpful advice from everyone on here!

Re: Exciting Update!

Congrats, congrats, congrats!!!

My scores are exactly similiar to yours, and I'm actually attempting to get a higher CL card preferrably from NFCU, but don't think I will get approved now, as I was actually denied by Capital One a few months back. Also looking to get auto loan from them as well. But again, don't think I will get approved. Currently have 6 collections reporting that I'm attempting PFDs for, to no avail as of yet. But your story is still inspiring.

Revolvers: FP Gold $300, FP Platinum $300, Applied Bank Business $500, Kay Jewelers $500, Fingerhut $400, Gettington $300

Installers: KHEAA student loan, Dealer Funding LLC auto loan x2, Crescent Bank auto loan, Acceptance Loan Co personal loan x2

Negatives: 1 collection - 2010 $307, Auto lates - 2 30 days, 60 day, 2009 / 3 30 days, 60 day, 2012

Re: Exciting Update!

Both the CC and the Auto loan were not instantly approved, so I think it might have helped that my collections were paid in full before I applied, and it went to the underwriters/specialists. But they wouldn't say. I know that having them paid in full didn't help my scores though.

Capital one declined me an unsecured card a few months back also, but I gave it a shot once my scores improved a little more and my secured card was with them for over 6 months and they approved me. 300 CL but hey it's a start.

Good luck and don't give up!

Re: Exciting Update!

Which NFCU card did you apply for? I just opened an account with them and not sure which one to try and apply for. My FICO with TU is 589 according to myfico. The TU website said it was 612 though. I was just approved for a Capital one unsecured card with a $500 limit(shocking!) but denied for several others. I don't know if it's worth it to try and apply for one more through NFCU.

Re: Exciting Update!

I applied for the visa rewards card. I believe it's the first one on the list when u apply. You should have a really good chance with them!
