Experian dispute changed payment history of old account from ND to CO

Hello all,

I Disputed information that pertained to an old credit card that was paid off and Experian just reported the account payment code to CO after being paid.   Is this legal for them to do? Is there anything I can do to fix this? Is this lowering my score?

payment history is listed on my current experian report as this:

may to sept 2012 OK, oct 30, nov 60, dec 90, 2013 jan 120, feb 150, mar 180, apr to jun 2014 ND, jul CO.

status says paid in settlement $585 written off.

comment says account paid in full for less than full balance

When you say paid off, was it charged off and then settled? Because that's how it looks.

Yes that is correct.

In that case, if you knew that the truth (charge off) was worse than what was listed (no data), why did you challenge it in the first place? You should never dispute accurate information on your credit reports - and definitely never dispute something that is better on your report than in actuality.

I made a  rookie mistake  it seems.  I disputed because the high balance and the credit limit was reporting incorrect.
