hi there, I'm a new member here. I have had a pretty good credit history until last year when I was charged off on Nordstrom VISA. I stuck my head in the sand and ignored it for about a year or so. I went to another site and asked for advice about this charge-off. I spoke to a lower CSR who told me I had to deal wtih the collection agency. I was told on the other sites nothing I could do about the charge off but try to get a PFD with CA. Anyhow, I come on this site to find out about an auto loan and I start thinking about that charge-off and I search for Nordstrom. I found a bunch of useful threads about people having success emailing Nordstrom higher-ups. I did the same and within a day, I resolved my debt to Nordstrom and they have agreed to delete the tagline. I cannot wait to see the jump in credit score. Now I'm addicted and I want to try to get the other baddies (two 30-day lates and one other collection removed). If it wasn't for this site, I would have paid the CA and had no recourse with OC Nordstrom. Thanks.

Excellent point-- if you pay the CA, you remove your leverage with the OC.
Plus, an OC will always give you a better deal because they just want their money, while an OC wants the money plus their fee. (And if the CA offers a lower settlement, then the OC would only be getting a fraction of that amount so you are still better off going to the OC and offering less than the CA settlement!)
