Hi everyone, this is my first post on here so go easy on me. I am currently in the process of repairing my credit. When my ex-wife and I got a divorced, my financialy situation went down the drain along with the marriage. I difulted on all of my accounts, except for one. Things are a bit messy right now. My last payments for most of my accounts was April of 2013. I currently have two credit cards.
Synchrony Sony Credit Card: $3,000 (I am an authorized user on this. My ex wife's is still the primary on this card.) 0 balance
Capital One Quicksilver One: $300 (I just got approved for this card two weeks ago) 0 balance
I am in the process of rehabilitating my student loan with ECMC. I applied for the target red card but got denied (they are charged off), I applied for a Discover Secured Card and got denied (I had an unsecured card with them but they are also charged off) and I applied for a Cheveron card and got denied. I am just looking for some advice and help. I want to rebuild my credit. I currently have 4 or 5 inquires. One of them should fall off in June. My credit score with Transunion is 579.
Side note. Both Discover and Target show up on my Equifax credit report as open, with a balance but Payment status shows "collection/charge-off" and in remarks it says "charged off account". Since it is "open", can I contact them and pay them directly? Do you think it would be possible to reestablish a relationship with them?
Thanks for all of your help everyone. I hope to gain some knowledge and get things going.

Apply for a second Capital One card. App for the Platinum Card. After a couple of statements, request an upgrade to reward status. Then start requesting CLI's on both cards every few days until you get them.
Try getting a secured VISA though SDFCU (join American Consumer Council to qualify).
Take yourself off of the AU account.
Do you really want your Ex to have that much power over your credit? With that type of file all she has to do is run the card up and watch your score drop. I'd get the second Cap One and look into a secured Visa for the third card, then it's just going to be a waiting game. And of course get everyone paid up.
Show a couple months of good use on that QS1 and check the prequal offers. Capital One has a history of being very good to it's customers that make their payments on time and in full. Look into secured cards, not the most glamorous of cards but they certainly help people that are rebuilding.
No, just about everyone here has or has applied for both the Platinum and QS1. My guess is that your profile is very questionable and they gave you a chance with one of the cards but they don't want to extend too much until you have a history of paying them back. Use the card, pay the card and they will be good to you.
As to your Discover and Target questions. Discover has a set time limit from charge off until they will offer you another card, I believe it to be five years but I'm not sure. Target I'm sure has something similar but there is no reason to get a Target card, get the debit version, same benefits and it hooks right up to your bank account. If no collection agency is showing on your reports then I'd call Discover and Target and see if they will either PFD or settle for less, just so that they stop updating. Your scores should start rising as you get further out from the last updates on those.
Do you know if Discover puts people on their blacklist?
