I'd say it doesn't hurt to ask.

Re: GW letters for Inquiries ?

Inquiries don't matter when you're rebuilding. Promise. Spend your time and energy cleaning up the baddies on your report as best as possible. And not that you mentioned it, but just so others know: do not dispute inquiries! It's a quick way to get flagged for fraud and the headache is not worth it. Inquiries are part of the deal when rebuilding. Ignore them and focus on baddies.

Thank you tiger_uppercut! I had read of others doing this but did not see anything about being flagged for fraud.

Re: GW letters for Inquiries ?

Once a CRA has filled a request tor a consumer's credit report, it is a fact that they divulged your credit information to another, and they cannot properly delete that fact from your file unless it was shown that the inquiry lacked any permissible purpose.

They dont "delete" inquiries.

However, the CRAs have an informal process, not regulated under the FCRA, of permitting inquiries that otherwise are properly shown in credit reports they issue to others to become restricted only to reports made availible to the consumer themseleves (so-called "hard" vs "soft" inquiries.

The proper process is to request that they recode the inquiry as soft, which will remove it from scoring, not to request good-will deletion.

HOw do you go about formally requesting a change in coding from a CRA? Is there a chance that they will actually do this?

Re: GW letters for Inquiries ?

There are no published procedures, as the coding process for hard vs. soft is not provided under the FCRA, and is purely an informal process of the CRAs that has no published rules.

Contact the party who made the inquiry and request that they contact the CRA and get their inquiry recoded.
