In your experience, do scores reflect a decent bump when this happens? My scores have stubbornly floated below 650 for ages now and I would dearly like to start a real upswing.
YMMV. The issues is that FICO can be fickle. You will lose a lot of age when they are removed. Additionally, you will be in another scoring bucket and that can hurt. You may see an initial dip and then you will be in a position to see large jumps in score if you get some decent high limit cards.
Yes, the big thing is to have positive tradelines to pull the scores upward as those items fall off, otherwise your scores will not change much.
