I called them and they say it is from Chase Bank an account that was open from 2007 and The account is not showing on my credit report do they have the right to show the collection , first delequincy was more than 7 years ago .
What should I do in this case .
Thank you all for your help.
If/when a debt collector reports a collection to a CRA, they are required to also obtain the DOFD on the OC account and report that DOFD to the CRA.
The CRA then uses that reported DOFD to determine whether they can include the reported collection in any credit report they issue.
The DOFD must be providied to the CRA within 90 days of reporting of their collection.
If it has been more than 7 years plus 180 days from the DOFD, the debt colector will most likely not even report it, as their reporiting will not see the light of day.
That is not of substantive concern at theis point.
They can report to a CRA prior to sending any communications to the consumer.
You can send a request for debt valiation, which if you send prior to receipt of any dunning notice or within 30 days of receipt of a dunning notice, will impoe a cease collection bar on the debt collector until they provide the requested debt vlidation, but will not require them to delete their prior credit reporting.

As Robert indicated, a DV would be in order first.
I would also send them a direct dispute asserting that they have not obtained the correct DoFD on the account. Once you have established the correct DoFD, the CRA's should automatically exclude it from your reports, and you can treat it as Zombie debt.
