okay I'm back my equifax is 618, transunion 626, and transunion, 629. I would like to be at 700 before I apply for a mortgage. I have officially paid off all the baddies. I still have $105 balance on capital one credit card and $802 on a closed merrick card. I know once i pay them down I will see a score boost I hope. I have a question should I apply for a credit card or leave it alone.

Congrats on the boost! You're heading in the right direction.  Applying for a new account depends on when you plan on applying for a mortgage.  You need at least 6 months with no new accounts, and if its before then, you run the risk of not being approved and/or having to supply a LOE. Good luck and keep doing what you're doing!

Re: Help raising score for a mortgage

I thought I would give an update my score is 655 I officially applied for a home loan I'm using VA. I'm beyond nervous  and haven't heard anything yet. Please say some prayers and thanks for all the wonderful advice. I'm hoping it goes through for a new construction. I will keep you posted.

If you are going VA, you don't need to get your scores that high. At 620 you will still get good rates. I'm getting 3.75% with a midscore of only 617.

Do you know what your mortgage scores are?

Re: Help raising score for a mortgage

Who are you using might I ask. Our lender had us pay everything then I received an ambulance bill on my report that the VA paid. Never experienced this. Scores are sitting at 600 we are seeking to get at least 620
