Help with JC Penney

Only 2 baddies left on my CR, both charge offs and have left them alone as they were not contacting me. The account was last paid in March 2011. I had a law firm contact me and ask for payment in full. I asked for a possible PFD and he said that is up to the OC. I said I would contact the OC and see if they would work with me, he said "don't bother you will only get a run around. JCP still owns the debt but the firm is collecting for them. How can I best deal with this? What is the best way to not crash my credit score?

Re: Help with JC Penney

Actually I just pulled my report and it was reported on 4/48/2015 as charge off and purchased by another lender. So how do I deal with this issue being that JCPenney's has sold it? Why would the law firm say they did not own the debt but Penny's did? Sorry for the questions, but I have dealt with medical debt and most companies were easy to deal with.

Re: Help with JC Penney

Try calling JCP and see if they can get the debt back or not. Remember that collectors are paid off what they collect, none of them want you to pay someone besides them.
