Helping my nephew start his credit

So now that I'm on my way I was talking to my sister this weekend and she mentioned my nephew, who is a responsible 19 year old in flight school, has been thinking he needs to start building. I posted to him on Facebook my first pieces of advice. Pull credit reports, join a local credit union, and look around at student cards. I haven't mentioned secured cards to him yet. Then on about controlling spending, never be late, etc. He lives at home while he's in school and has a job so he should be okay. I worked on fixing mine now I get to help him start right and keep it that way!

Re: Helping my nephew start his credit

I think that's awesome.  I never had an adult talk to me about credit, debt, spending habits or budgets.  I, after going through a huge learning curve, sat my 18 yo son down 2 nights ago and had a talk with him.  I advised him that this would be an on going topic and he should just get used to it.  I don't want to see him make the same mistakes I made.

Re: Helping my nephew start his credit

Well, I was talking to my sister about it and she said "You should talk to your nephew, he respects your opinion". Really, a 19 year old respecting someone's opinion that isn't one of their friends?LOL
