NEWBIE!!

I have a couple of questions:

I've been off the wagon so to speak and I'm now working to get back on my feet.  After years of neglect, I am working to clean up my credit.

How do I get verification that debts listed on my credit report are not only accurate, but have amounts that are accurate?  Note:  these are accounts by the way are far beyond 30 days of being charged off.  Something I read stated that you can only dispute the amount owed within 30 days.

2nd question:  Can collectors continue to add fees and interest charges to accounts which have charged off ?  After setting up MyFico account, I got an alert about a balance increase on an account that charged off over a year ago.

Have you sent a DV to them?  This could be a good place to start.

I've not sent a DV yet.  So is it still a good place to start even though from other post I've read here, the request is not "timely"?  Way beyond the 30days.

Oh yes.. still DV.  This makes them go into their records and make sure they have everything.  I've seen lots of people get rid of TLs just with a DV.
