The first thing is to determine if you have an issue that is basis for a dispute.
Disputes under the FCRA are directed at contesting the accuracy of information that has been reported.
The consumer must identify a specific inaccuracy, and provide sufficient information to permit the investigation of its accuracy.
If your issue is a collection, is there any actual inaccuracy in what is being reported?
If so, you then have the option of either sending the dispute to a CRA that is showing the disputed information, or sending your dispute directly to the party who reported the information to the CRA. The dispute must identity the information, and explain how it is considered inaccurate.
If no actual inaccuracy is asserted, the dispute can be dismissed without any need to investigate.
