How far back can insurance cover medical bills?

I have a collection which says date open 10/1/2011 for a medical bill that I believe my insurance should have covered. Does anyone know how far back insurance companys will go to pay for a medical bill?"

Re: How far back can insurance cover medical bills?

That probably depends on your insurance and the circumstances that lead to it being sent to collections.  Meaning, were they not billed or not correctly?

I would still try.

I dont believe they were billed. Its a low amount of money I was in the process of sending the CA a PFD, I talked to a rep on the phone and they told me they dont do that but would not let me talk to a supervisor so maybe a formal letter will be better.

A PFD isn't really a formal letter.  It is like a GW letter so keep it nice with no demands.

HIPAA law letter will get it removed paid or not!
7/1/13 - EQ = 593 TU = 578 EXP = 573 FICO
8/11/13 - EQ = 600 TU = 590 EXP = 603 FICO
10/1/13 - EQ = 611 TU = 689 EXP = 605 FICO
12/4/13 - EQ = 625 TU = 648 EXP = 604
Lender Pull 2/18/14 - EQ = 630 TU = 678 EXP = 594
Lender Pull 2/28/14 (EQ 640) (TU 660) (EX 655) Rapid re-score =)
9/30/14 - EQ = 660 TU = 710 EXP = 669

Re: How far back can insurance cover medical bills?

My friend has this issue, Hospital never billed insurance and send it staright to collections..i was informed that as long as you had insurance at the time you should be ok. The billing dept has to file a claim and they will because they want to get paid..the hippa law also applies.

Hippa privacy law: the entry may not be removed but they have to remove identifiying info expample creditor " Holy Name Hospital Cancer Center" <----- the refernce to Cancer Center violates hippa.

Yes this is true. Or any reference that could tell others what type of procedure you had or somehow identify an illness.

But having a collection for a medical bill is not in and of itself, a violation of HIPAA.
