I belong to PSECU. Love them. Free EX FICO. I'd like to join PenFed but want to get my scores up and a few inquiries to drop so I can be eligible for their credit cards. They are quite conservative from what I have read.

What exactly are credit unions good for?
They offer loans and credit cards at interest rates significantly lower than a traditional bank.

Ok got it. Do they offer anything for us bad credit people that would help rebuild credit??
Some of them, like NFCU, are much more lenient when offering new credit to people with previous credit problems. They would probably offer you a high credit line, even with a low FICO, but you would have to qualify for membership.
