How will this effect me?

I am trying to get a paid CMI/Comcast collection deleted. I told them this is not my account. They want me to take a letter from local Police station that this account is not mine. If I were to do this how will it effect me? Once I send the letter, is CMI/Comcast required to remove it from my credit report? Will this any other negative effect on me?

If it truly isn't your account, then you do need to file a police report for identity theft.  You can send the report to the CRAs for deletion.
