Can i get an answer from any one?
I finally got Northland Group (capital one's credit card collection agency) to take my offer for a settlement, after making them 5 offers in the past 3 year.
I made a deel to pay them the amount in 2 installments by the end of March.2011
They said i would receive my pay off notice when It is paid in full.. Im fine by that, but Now I just receiving a letter from capital one themself asking for the arriginal amount due back in 2006, after they wrote it off in 2006. Are they allowed to do that?
Should I pay Northland Group? Or is this a hoax? I have all my e-mail letters from Northland Group with the agreement between the two of us.
I was also told after a wrote off they are not suppose to come after you. Is this true? Thank you, Terbear46

This may be above my head but I'll give it a shot.......
Do you have a recent Credit Report? Did Cap1 Charge Off the account? From what I know if Cap1 charged off the account and sold it to a collection agency it should show on your report/s as a charge off with a 0 balance.
If thats the case I do not believe Cap1 can try and collect the money. But if the Cap1 acct. is listed on your Credit Report/s as a collection with a balance then they can try and collect the money , I assume the acct is closed? I would try to set up a pay for delete arrangement with Cap1 not Northland. But be sure to get any payment agreements in writing before paying one dollar.
A little more info as to how this acct. is being reported to the Credit Bureau/s would be helpful.
I would also wait for one of the more experienced members here to chime in, as I'm just now starting to learn about how this system works.
Best of luck.

When a creditor writes off (Charges Off) your account, it does not mean you no longer owe them the money. The debt will remain until paid. A CO is just an accounting term.
Before I paid anyone, I would find out who the debt is with. It is odd for a CA to make arrangements for a payment then the OC turn around and ask for money too.
It means that Cap One still owns the debt, otherwise they would not contact you.
Call Cap One and find out what is going on.
