I know negative items on credit say for 7 -10yrs, I also know negtative marks lose impact on credit over time. Does anyone have a good estimate/guess how long before negative item begin to lose serious impact ?
I have one negative mark on my record which was added in Feb so I know at minimum i'm stuck in banks' undesirable catagoary for at least a year but considering I continue to pay my cards on time, use them wisely and avoid any more negative items, etc how long do you all think it'll be before it'd be worth it to even try for even a small personal loan (like 5k max)?
I paid mine nearly the second after getting it in full, and it really didn't start to matter less until about 5 years. The good news is that EQ and TU both pulled it early. EX no such luck, it just finally dropped off in May.
NY is more open to goodwill deletes than many other states, and has a shorter statute of limitations (5 years) for it to sit on your report. I'd try for the goodwil and if you don't get it, EE after 3 years. I couldn't get it because while I paid it while I still lived in NY, I had moved in the interim.
The NYS statute setting a shorter period of 5 years for credit report exclusion applies to judgments, charge-offs and collections, not to tax liens.
