Goodwill:

"I am sorry that I was late, Here is why it happened, Here is why it won't happen again, Here is why it's not indicative of my responsibility to pay, Here is why it benefits you to help me out"

Pay For Delete:

"I'm writing in regards to this item.  I don't admit culpability for this debt, but I'd like it gone from my reports.  To this end, I propose that I pay ($amount) and you consider it paid in full and delete (specific negative reporting) from the CRAs and do not report on this account in the future.  If you agree, please send me a letter on your letterhead with these terms spelled out and I will send you certified funds within X days"
