Is this legal??????

A year ago I left working for bankers life and casualty company as a 1099 agent at the time of my departure they owed me nothing and I owed them nothing. About 8 months later I received letters stating that I owed over 600 dollars from policy's that people cancelled. Is it legal for them to attempt to collect? I now have a collection on my credit.

What documents did you sign as part of your exit package/interview ?

I'm guessing, but I would assume there is a certain period of time where your last compensation would be settled.
