E-mail PFD failed. However postal mail PFD got the account closed and deleted without payment.
I just sent a PFD email to AFNI on an acct that is past the SOL and due to fall off of CR March 2012. I just want it off now. In my PFD email I made no acknowledgment of owning the debt. It is for $305 and I am offering $100 as payment in full. I will post a follow-up.
This is the email PFD offer I sent to AFNI;
Re: Collection Account for Original Creditor AT&T Account #: 202387xxxx
Amount: $305.00
Listed Debtor: My Name
To Whom It May Concern:
This letter is to inform you that the validity of this debt is disputed. I am not sure of the account number, as I have never heard from you regarding this account. The account number I have is the one listed on my Experian credit report – which omits the last few digits. According the entries on my credit reportthis account is past the Statute of Limitations and will come of my credit report in March 2012.
In the spirit of compromise, I am willing to pay this account in an amount of $100 as payment in full if you agree to immediate deletion of this account from any and all credit reporting agencies (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion). The purpose of this settlement is merely to have this item removed from my credit files at once. It is not to be construed as an acknowledgment of liability for this debt in any form. I am NOT willing to pay anymore than the amount herein offered.
If you agree to the terms and accept this agreement, certified funds for the settlement amount of one hundred dollars ($100) will be sent to AFNI Collection Agency in exchange for full deletion of ALL references regarding this account from my credit files and full satisfaction of the debt. As certified funds will be used for payment, there shall be no waiting period regarding the deletion of this account from the credit reporting agencies.
AFNI Collection Agency agrees to delete ALL information regarding this account from the credit reporting agencies WITHIN TEN CALENDAR (10) DAYS following receipt of payment as specified above and will not discuss the terms of this settlement with anyone, excluding your client on this account. If contacted by any third party, including credit-reporting agencies, AFNI Collection Agency will not acknowledge that any settlement offer was made, accepted or executed and will, in fact, deny knowledge of any such account.
If you agree to the above terms, please prepare a letter on your company letterhead explicity agreeing to the same terms as the above settlement offer and have it signed by an authorized representative of AFNI Collection Agency. It will be implied that this letter shall constitute a legally binding contract, enforceable under the laws of my state.
Your response must be postmarked no later than 15 days from your receipt of this settlement offer or this offer will be withdrawn and I will request full validation of this alleged debt, as provided for by the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.

I will now follow-up with the same PFD offer via CMRRR and we will see what happens.
I immediately sent the following email in response their email quoted above;
to: recoveryteam@afni.com
As I dispute this to be my debt, be advised that it is past the statute of limitations; I therefore revoke my offer and demand you cease any further contact with me regarding this alleged debt. I was for merely for the sake of yours and my convenience resolve a disputed debt.
I'm in the same boat as you (except mine is an AT&T account I paid ages ago) - I emailed AFNI a PFD and got the same reply as you - word-for-word. I sent them my request to validate 3 months ago, and they never responded, so I sent the PFD just to be rid of it. I guess their plan is to investigate forever. I'm curious to know how they respond to your follow-up email.
Since they did not want to play ball, I responded with the following email to their reply;

I don't want to restart the SOL clock and I never acknowledged liability for this debt.
OK, well today I followed up with a snail mail letter since people seem to have better luck going that route. We will see what I get back and I will keep everyone up to par on it. Thanks. Here hoping!
Sorry, the letter I sent was a PFD offer. It is due to fall of CR Apr 2012, but I want it off now. Offered $100 of the supposed $305 that I owe. Let see.
