My DH had 3 to 4 medical bills from a local hospital go into collections about 3 years ago. We finally paid them off in December 2011. He applied for an auto loan in May 2012 and on his credit report, the collection company is saying that the debt was paid off this past March. Can he get this fixed and how long will this be on his records? He also found out that Chase is reporting a late payment back in 2006 for 2 month. How long will this stay on his records? TIA!
OP, I'm not sure as to how you can get the CA to correct their reporting to show paid in Dec. 2011 vs Mar. 2012. Perhaps calling them will help or even sending a letter explaining the reporting error. Since all the accounts are paid I would recommend sending GW letter to the collection agencies. Also send a GW letter to Chase to remove the lates. I have read other threads indicating sucess with Chase removing lates via GW. The collections will remain on the credit report for 7 to 7.5 yrs from the date of first delinquency (DOFD).

Since you paid the colection off see if they will agree to delete their reporting.
