I found a small medical collection on my credit history that hasn't been reported since 2006. I am wanting to get it paid off but also would like for them to remove the item from my report upon payment. What is the procedure for this? Ask them for a written letter stating that upon payment in full the item will be removed and then pay it off after receiving the letter?
