Medical collection question

I just got a msg from ScoreWatch that another collection has been added for a $40 copay to a doctors office.  read the steps by Fused on how to solve it, however I still have a few questions. Is that the process you have to do. If I called them and just paid them, then disputed.......would that be a bad idea?

I'm pretty sure. I have full custody of my daughter and her dad is suppose to half the copays. I know I paid 40$ in October with a 40$ remainder that I was assuming he would pay, but obviously didn't. I wish they would have contacted me so that it never went to collections.
