I was just preapproved last week for my first mortgage with scores of TU-671, EX-684, and EQ- 693. Suddenly today I get an alert that my EX FAKO has gone down 40 points! I got a copy of the report to see what was up and found the following. Does anybody know what I can do about this? It says it was a Niagara Mohawk account. I did have a debt with them but I paid it directly to National Grid which was formerly Niagara Mohawk. Is this legal? Please help!!!

I see a "date opened" but not a "date of first delinquency". Do you know this date?
I have no idea. It was probably around August or September 2004.
This should come off of your report in 7 - 7.5 years from that date, so somewhere between August 2011 and March 2012.
Did you deal with the OC before it went to this CA? It shouldn't hurt to send a DV.
I paid directly to the OC. I never heard from this company. Why would this hit my report out of the blue like this? There is nothing owed, so there is nothing for them to gain.
Its strange that they would all of sudden start reporting a paid collection account. do you remember when you paid it? Do you have any proof? You will need to find out the DOFD? Pretty much all you can do is GW the account or dispute with the CRA's.
