Merchandise cards to lower util

Are there any of these that still help that will give a good limit? I am on my fathers cards as an au and while the history has been helpful in my ability to reestablish myself creditwise, he has about 90% util
On each of his cards and pays the minimum.

Any advice please.

Re: Merchandise cards to lower util

There are two reasons to consider removing yourself from that card as an AU.

First, % util is one of the higher-weighted scoring factors, and a 90% util is likely hurting your overall score.

Second, the presence of any AU account in your report automatically means that your score is no longer representative of your own personal risk assessment.

Some creditors will discount the value of any score if they do a manual review and see the presence of an AU.

Re: Merchandise cards to lower util

I am afraid of how bad it will hurt my reports to lose the history.

Re: Merchandise cards to lower util

AAoA counts for 15% of your scores, utilization counts for 30-35% of your scores. So you are actually losing points with those AU cards

Re: Merchandise cards to lower util

It's not so much my average age that I'm worried about as much as my payment history as those are the only revolvers I've had on my reports and the past few years.. does anyone have experience with my Jewelers club or could suggest any other merchandise card that could help me with my utilization or should I just absolutely drop the authorized users off my reports?

Have you tried explaining this to your father?  Sounds like he could use the help as well...

Re: Merchandise cards to lower util

I have and he does need it, but he is very stubborn and refuses to make more than the minimum.

Re: Merchandise cards to lower util

Your father is a credit card bank's dream...

You need to get OFF of his maxed out cards as a AU. It's probably doing you far more harm than it is doing good..  Whats keeping your scores down btw?

NFCU $60.4k/PenFed $22.5k/Commerce $15K/53 $11K/Synovus $14K/BBT $11K/CapOne $12K/DCU $7.5K/BMO $7.5K/Chase $14.5k/Cabelas $10K/ and many many more!
Total CL $398600, plus car and RV loan.
Ooh. Ooh. Getting closer to that $500K mark!
