Mortgage Late Payments

Hello all,

I'm not sure where to post this questions, but rebuilding seems appropriate. Can the bank that holds your mortgage retroactively report late payments to a credit bureau?

Thanks!

Re: Mortgage Late Payments

AFAIK, if the payments were in fact late, they can. I know my student loans did 😕

Re: Mortgage Late Payments

Yes, it is very common.

It often happens when a consumer takes some action, such as a dispute, that leads the creditor to reviw the consumer's credit file.

They can add information not previously reported.

The FCRA sets no time period after which information cannot be reported.

The only stipulation is that what is reported cannot knowingly be inaccurate.

Re: Mortgage Late Payments

Thanks for your reply! If they report lates from 2010-2012, for example, how would something like that affect my credit scores?

Re: Mortgage Late Payments

If its only one or two 30 day lates, its likely to have very minimal effect.
