I have a small paid collection from a parking ticket a few years ago. On my EX report it shows date opened Nov 2010, and first reported date of Feb 2011. I live in NY so paid collections drop off at 5 years. I knew that would be coming up but I wasn't certain what date they use since multiple dates were on my report and this item didn't specifically state a drop off date on my full report.
So yesterday I called Experian to inquire. It sounded like I was connected to an overseas rep and when I inquired he said that yeah it didn't show a specific drop off date and he would have to transfer me to an analyst to calculate what the date would be. I believe I was transferred to a US rep. She said the DOFD was Sept 2010 so it would fall off in Sept 2017. I brought up that I live in NY, and she corrected herself that because of that the system would automatically drop it off my report on Sept 1 of this year. I was caught off guard because I wasn't expecting it to be within 3 months, I figured the earliest it would be dropped off would be in Nov so I didn't actually ask her if it could come off early. I thanked her and hung up. I decided in the morning I'd call back and ask for an early exclusion.
This morning just before getting ready to call, I pull up my Experian report since I have their credit tracker and I find the collection has dropped off. So I guess just the inquiry got them to remove it.
Thats one way to get it done
Congratulations!
