I received a letter today from Suburban Credit Corporation:
Reference your letter requesting a settlement of $178.00, BestPractices, Inc has declined this offer. However, upon receipt of $278.00 a request will be submitted to remove all reporting done to any of the credit reporting agencies for these accounts.
So does that mean that SCC is representing BestPractices? SCC is reporting, BestPractices is not reporting. Anyway, my next step is... ? Can I try for $178 again? What should be my next offer?
BTW, the $278 is for 3 accounts with BestPractices. Only 1 account is reporting with DoFD of 08/2008.
Perhaps they are the same company. If they are offering 3 accounts for 278 and deletion, I would be inclined to take it. Just because the other two arent reporting doesnt mean they cant. Often times with small debts I have found that they are less likely to settle for deletion.
Darn, I was trying to save some money to pay bigger PFDs. But I guess I gotta do what I gotta do. But you're right. I did not look at it as a success because they did not accept my offer. But it's right there in writing.
Now, is this my proof that they will delete? If I send the check right now, and the account does not come off my reports in 60 days, I can complain to BBB?
Yes, they are deleting. And yes if not off in 60 days file a complaint for them not honoring a written agreement.
I would send payment back with another letter stating "as agreed upon" and the terms, along with a copy of their letter. Most CA's are actually really good about deleting when they agree to, especially when in writing. If they dont delete or it updates inappropriately I would call them and ask them correct it before complaining to the BBB.
They are agreeing to delete for full payment. I would never send a personal check to a CA.
