My first score bump.. and I dont even know why!?

I'm new to this and never thought I'd see any increase because my credit is so horrible  BUT this morning I got a ScoreWatch alert and I got an 11 point bump!!

Now heres the question... WHY??

I took a hard inquiry hit from Cap One for a Secured Card (and got denied)

But I also disputed quite a few things and it says that one of them changed. It looks like the only thing that changed on it was that the BALANCE field is now empty instead of $1,998

Would that really bump your score that much?

Thanks!

Yep although it is probably due more to the dispute taking the balance out of the FICO scoring algorium. Do you have any cc's now or are all of your revolving accounts closed?

No, I have no open CCs but I do have student loans that I am paying and have never been late.

What should i do now?

with no revolving credit lines established and a denial for a cap1 secured, maybe look at first premier card? the fees are outragious but you gotta start somewhere.  just a suggestion.

I did the Ist premier route NO credit whatsoever. If you do its like a 75$ fee and 95$ secured for 300 in credit charge and pay in full only small items. Then in a couple of months with some good history try Cap oNE or maybe another secured card with diffeent cc company. At 13 months when the annual fee is due and you have other accounts open cut them loose
