What was your credit score when you got a Navy Fed credit card, LOC or car loan? How much where you approved for? I need to add a new tradeline to my credit report but not sure if I should wait a little longer for my credit score to improve more now that I am getting items deleted.
Hey there!
I opened my NFCU CC in 12/2011 with a credit score like urs.... I apped - expecting a $1K limit at most. I had been a NFCU member for several years (5-6 years w/ a direct deposit in my checking account for 2 of those years). I heard of someone I knew with far worse credit than mine who received a $5K credit line. So,like a dummy, i took a risk & apped. and BAM! I was approved for $6K. It gave me the message tho -- that the info needed further review etc.And a few days later, I was informed of my $6K credit line. I am unsure of what my CS was at that point, but I know it had to be FAR FAR Less than the 608 (Experian) pulled 12 months later on 11/28/2012. It was then that I also learned that NFCU tends to pull TU and EQ, which they did to me. They pulled my EQ AND TU. Idk which bureau sparked the approval, but oh well. Im just thankful that ive now been 14 months with a major Credit line.
I wish I could recommend something to u in order to sway ur decision to app or not app, but I think I would need to know more about ur credit profile... care to share? I just think that NFCU takes more into consideration than just ur FICO, otherwise, I wouldnt have even had a chance.
SN: I think that the only thing that reflects my poor FICO score is the APR that they initially gave to me -- 24.99% - otherwise I wouldve had a better interest rate, but honestly I was just happy with a CC from NFCU...

I joined Navy Fed a few yrs ago, started direct deposit about 8 months ago
I joined nfcu and within days applied for the visa. I had a score of 571 on all 3. Got approved for $6000 cl. I was really surpised and happy! I read a lot of people got approved with that score. Good luck!
I think they check EQ notoriously. Pretty sure I had a 598 as well when I applied there and I was instantly approved for a $7K cashRewards card, no further investigation required. At the time, I was paying down one charged off account and my only open trade line was my $500 Barclay Apple/iTunes card (perfect payment history).
I'm not sure what all they take into consideration, but my parents opened my account there when I was a baby (1984) and I just started using it last year because they were deducting money from my savings account for non-use. (It only took them 28 years..) I don't have direct deposit through there because they take too long to make funds available.
I never had my direct deposit delayed. But I did receive a message today explaining that check deposits @ the branch is changing . the first 200 will be available the same business day and the rest will be available the next business day.
Yes, next business day. Currently, with USAA, I get it the day before.
