During the summer of 2012 my son was a trainee at the NYS Corrections Academy. He lived at the Academy from Sunday to Friday. he woke up one morning and his eye was red. It did not bother him in any way, but his commanding officer was afraid he had pink eye. He was ordered to a particular ER to get a clearance that he was not contagious. He was not covered under their health insurance (until he graduated) but was told it would be handled as a Worker's Comp matter. he turned every document he received over to the appropriate people in Albany And never gave it a second thought.
Lo and behold he checks his credit report today and there is a $500 collection account from this visit. He immediately called the CA and told them he would contact the appropriate people to get this paid but that he needed it removed from his credit report. He was told NO WAY, since it was over 180 days old.
Looking for some strategy, he is trying to refinance his car so that he can take me off as co-signer so that I.can get a mortgage! There is a lot riding on this.

First off, get it paid by the insurance. Then send a direct dispute (623) that he was not the responsible party. It's worth a try.
