Need help on bad check-quick...

I got call today from someone at California Recovery Systems who said they were doing an investigation on a bad check I wrote to Advance America who had sold the account to National Credit Acceptance.  They said they would be getting back to the company that hired them with a decision on the matter and I would possibly be getting summoned for court for writing a bad check in the state of Ohio depending on his decision.  I thought this matter was taken care of last year but it was another account that I had taken care of and we were both very short on the phone, anyway he said he would be making a decision "out of courtesy" he would give me until 5pm to look over my records and figure out if it was the same account I had paid.  He told me if I hold a professional license I could lose that license and lose the ability to have a bank account.  I already don't have a bank account so that doesn't hurt me, but I do hold a professional license.  I am also on short term disability right now and am the sole provider for a soon to be family of 6.  I don't want him to scare me into doing something that I shouldn't do but I also don't want to lose my nursing license or cost me more money than need be.  This is a debt that I incurred.  Does anyone have any advice?

After doing a little more research Cashnet who was the original company I supposedly paid off is a division of Advance America.  I do not have any debt release information.  I do have proof of the 2 payments what went through 2 different collection agencys that totaled $1066 and was paid over a year ago.  I know I received a call from another collection agency after the payments were made and there was a big problem with this each company saying the other one was a fraud.  I have 2 seperate phone #'s on my statements for each company one says it is incorrect and the other goes directly to a recording saying leave a message, no name or company information.  After that happened which was a year ago I never heard anything back.  Now I don't know where the money went and I have nothing in writing and no way to prove to these new people that I thought it was paid and I am out $1066.  I do have my bank statements still but what does that prove if it just has the name of bogous collection agencies?

Re: Need help on bad check-quick...

Is this a check for a payday loan?

Has any of these CA's ever reported on your CR's?

Do you know what your DOFD is?  And the SOL?

Also the only way I can think of, pulling a professional license is from failure to pay child support.

There maybe other reasons of pulling a prof license, but i dont know of.

Re: Need help on bad check-quick...

Please tell the person to correspond with you through the mail ONLY.

Once you receive your dunning letter, DV it.

Call the original creditor and find out who legally owns the debt.

No one has the right to harass you over the phone.  No one.

Please do not give personal information over the phone.  Ask for the caller's name, phone number, company he/she represents, then request everything be done through the mail.  Do not verify your mailing address.  Tell the caller to remove your phone number from their list - they are not to call ever again.  Everything must be done through the mail!
