Need help with a judgement

I found out I have a judgement against me. A little background on it.... I was married and am now divorced. He screwed me up financially and I'm still trying to pick up the pieces. The judgement is in both of our names, it was a title loan and we were both on the title. The court says he was served but I had no knowledge of any of this until after our divorce. My question is the amount of the judgement is now showing up on my CR as a collection account with Ad Astra Recovery. Can the same thing be on my credit twice? I want to try to settle the judgement but I don't know where to start. I'm a struggling single mom that has yet to recieve child support so I can't pay the full amount. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Re: Need help with a judgement

First check with your divorce attorney to see if you are truly responsible for paying this. If so, You could call or write to the attorney that entered the judgment. Explain to them everything you've mentioned here. Then explain to them you want to set up payment plans. They may ask you to do a wage assignment or something similar to that. Also, if you really want to be fair, you could tell the law firm you don't have the full amount and tell them where your Ex lives, works and which bank he banks with. Then they could pursue your Ex too.

Re: Need help with a judgement

Also, in my state, I have seen people's retirement funds being garnished thru a Qualified Domestic Relations Order for Child Support, you may want to ask your family law attorney if there is such thing in your state.

Indeed, in can be listed twice. The Judgement as a public record and a collection from the collection agency who has the account and is attempting to collect on it.

They can levy any property or bank accounts and garnish your wages if they choose.
