Needing DOFD and clarity on the NYS 5-yr rule

I have the same question regarding my student loans that went into collections.  The collection accounts were eventually paid (via consolidated loan).

Here is one entry from the OC.  If I'm understanding correctly, my DOFD should be Sept or Oct 2006??  Does this mean that the related CA on my report has the same DOFD?  Also, since I live NYS, will the paid collection account come off after 5 years from the DOFD?  Sorry to hijack, I'm just confused by this.

OP, I split your post to form a new one here. I had to edit the title, but changed nothing else. If you'd like to change the title, click "Options" and then "Edit Message".

Re: Needing DOFD and clarity on the NYS 5-yr rule

Your DOFD is not listed. For best results in repair, always pull your full reports from the CRAs (or annualcreditreport). These show more details. I can say that DOFD always preceeds DOLA, so your DOFD would be before 10/2005 if they are reporting correctly. If a CA is reporting, it should also be before 10/2005. Again, pull your full report to get that info. To throw a wrench in things, the closure date of 1/2008 is puzzling. Maybe they don't see it as a CO, but rather a string of lates, and therefore the 5-yr rule doesn't apply.

Bumping for others....

Re: Needing DOFD and clarity on the NYS 5-yr rule

It's hard to make sense of this because it seems like the info being reported is missing/inconsistent/conflicting.  To make matters worse, i had approx 4 loans per year for 3 years which means I have over 24 negative accounts reporting right now.

Unfortunately, I cant pull from annualcreditreports until next year and I dont have the last set I pulled.  I have reports directly from EX and TU but they only provide the info I originally posted (or less).  Here's the same TL as reported on EQ (directly from them):

This is the way I see it reporting, I maybe wrong, Idk.
By looking at Recent pyt history Jan/2006--Dec/2007, The last box would be Dec2007,it states the account was current.

I believe that's why there's no DoFD. Also the account was closed the next month Jan08.

When did the insurance company pay on this account?  Did they also PIF?

If the insurance co did not bring the account to a current status on 12/07, then it's reporting incorrectly.

Re: Needing DOFD and clarity on the NYS 5-yr rule

Thanks for taking a look.  The conflicting info makes it hard to figure out.  If it falls of Nov '11 then I'll save myself the hassle of GWs.  It's unlikely that I they would work anyway.

The 5 years is for a paid collection account.  I saw this in a post on here a few days ago.   I think anything else is 7 years.

I think SOL is 6 yrs, but OP was referring to NY's 5-yr CRTP.
