New credit card caused a dip??!!

I was recently approved for a 2K Barclay card(Apple) and within a week,  my credit dipped by 10 points! I read this can happen, but why? And how long will it affect the score?

TIA!

Why?  No idea, but it happens when you add any new line of credit.  It should bounce back fairly quickly.

I don't know my start scores, but low 500s. 6/2013

Opening a new account will lower your AAoA (average age of accounts), which makes up a percentage of your FICO score.  The hit will be temporary and it should recover shortly.

Thanks for the replies.  How long does it typically take to rise back up? A few months or less? And here I thought it would help meSmiley Sad
