Re: New credit---->Old credit

What do you mean? Like if you open a new credit line when is that credit line not considered "new" by other creditor grantors??

If you mean that, and based upon what I know so far, there is no one answer.

Some credit grantors consider any account 6 months or less "new" while others want to see 12 months before they consider it not "new". Other credit grantors I've seen even consider credit lines that are 24 months or less, "new".

Every credit grantor has their own tolerance built into their system. For example, you can apply for a GECRB card (like Lowes, SmartConnect, JCP, Amazon, etc.) and good chance when you apply their system won't deny you because you have one or two "new" credit lines under 6 months or less than 12. Apply at PenFed (for example) and they will consider "new" accounts 12 to 24 months old (and less) as not only "new" but an attempt to "pyramid" debt.

I look at it this way with "new" credit lines: take it one hurdle at a time.

The first hurdle is getting to the 6 month mark.

Next hurdle, 12 months.

Next, 1.5 years; next 24 months, etc.

The first hurdle of 6 months might be enough for certain credit grantors not to consider your tradline "new" and thus not factor that into their equation. The second hurdle of 12 months or more will be enough for yet more credit grantors and so fourth.

So unless I'm way off here, my answer is there is no one right answer on this issue.
