New to Credit (Question for a Friend)

Hi All,

I have a friend who is brand new to this whole credit journey.  He's 33 and wants to start building his credit profile.  He just recently opened up a checking and savings account with a credit union.  He's here in the states for work, 8 to 9 months out of the year.  Where should he start?  Last year he had the option to get the BOA cash rewards but he declined that.  Should he reapply?  What other secured/unsecured cards could he apply for?

Have him sign up to CCT and do the $1 trial and then cancel it.  Then post those real FICO08 scores here.

Does he have an SSN?

Great, see if he can pull his FICO08 scores from CreditCheckTotal with the $1 free trial (cancel afterwards!).

With those scores, we can give you some ideas.

He might not have a score at all if he hasn't had any accounts reporting for the last 6 months.I'd suggest talking to the CU first and seeing if they have a card he might qualify for. Cap1 is usually good for new files also.
