Next Step?

I got a letter from a collections agency (for a debt I have) with SWEET deal that I'd like to accept. Problem is, I've never seen a letter from them before and they are not on any of my credit reports. What should my next step be? Debt validation? I don't want to get scammed and pay them on a debt that they don't own, but I don't want to miss out on this offer!! Help!

Google the company?
Or list the name here - maybe someone has history with them?
Call the number (from a public phone), how is the phone answered?
Under no circumstances admit the debit is yours.
If it is too sweet, I would be cautious and investigate too.

You could also contact the original creditor and inquire as to whether they ever assigned collection authority or sold the debt to that debt collector......
