Old Credit counseling account.

hello everyone, so today i looked at my credit report and saw that one of my accounts shows that an old account is managed by a credit counseling company.  I havent used them for over 6 years.  is that hurting my credit? is it a red flag if i apply for credit?  should i call and have them correct that?

closed account when i went into the program and it was never reopend

Hmmmm....so it is just showing as a closed account with the credit counseling service as the creditor?

I am new to all of this, but you could try a Good Will letter - ask them nicely to have it removed from your CR since it is closed (I assume paid in full?) and is 6 years old.  I have had success with GW's myself - got an item removed from my EQ report (still working on TU grrrrr!)

Hopefully the more knowledgeable FICO'ers will pop in and give you more suggestions.

The good news is that it sounds like it is a closed, paid account that is 6 years old. I would think the impact would be minimal at this point.

Do nothing with the account.  The remark about the account being managed by a CCCs has no effect on your FICO score and if you dispute it, the TL might wind up getting deleted which could lower your score due to decreased AAoA.  Most of my CC accounts have that comment on them since I was also in a DMP.  Leave it be.

No credit counseling service is EVER an original creditor.

Do you have an active contract with them? How are they "managing" the account?

What authority do they have to post anything to your credit file?

no the accout was cancelled years ago, when i went into counseling,at least 6 years ago.
