So I just got a call from a collection agency. They say I have a debt from 2006 with t-mobile and they were calling to offer a settlement. I told them that I didn't reconize the account and the status of limitions on the debt has ended and that they legally couldn't report to the credit bereaus- which they agreed that they couldn't. I asked them to stop calling me. So.. what should be my next steps. Leave it alone? Send a do not contact letter? I know they can still try and collect on a debt that old- but can't put it on the credit report (am I correct?) Oh and I asked when the first date of deliquincy was and they have no idea- which leads me to believe they bought this debt for pennies and wouldn't be able to properly validate it.
Leave it alone. i doubt they will be able to verify it. Or send a FOAD letter.
You are correct. what people fail to realize. that even it is past Sol. and even they cannot report on credit or sue you. the debt is still yours. if they acklowleged that as you say. just ignore. the fact you told them to stop calling means they must comply. it sounds honestly like convergent which tries with the old debt.
They told me i had 1k from 2001. and i said **bleep**. the is 2014.
They did same as with you. and said they only wanted 50 bucks.
I said put all in writing and send to me. and i will send you money order.
They did. in letter stated they cannot sue. nor affect my credit report.
They just wanted a few dollars. so i gave it to them. and have never heard from them since.
