I am contacting you in regards to the above account number. I've been a longstanding customer in good standing. In blah blah blah month of blah blah blah year, there was an oversight on my part and I paid my bill late for blah blah blah made up reason. This is being reported to my credit report and hurting my credit score. As an act of good will, would you be willing to delete this late payment from my file? I look forward to a long continued relationship with blah blah blah company and have made every effort to pay my bill on time in XYZ time since I've had the account and I truly apologize for this oversight. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

Anything you can do to remove blemishes that could be tarnishing your credit report... matters.
Send a GW or give them a call, see if they can remove it since it's an open account reporting mostly positive payments on time.

Even if you can't get it removed, it will drop at 7 years from the date it occurred, at which point the "red flag" will go away and the account will appear positive.
