Opting out time frame

Hello all...this is my first post, but I have been reaping the benefits of reading the boards for a couple months. I already have a 25+pt creep in the right direction. I have a ways to go,but I am determined. So yesterday I prepared GW letters on all my old late's. I haven't had any late's in over 4 years...but had MANY the year before that.My worst situation was 3 separate accounts with CapitalOne that had 150+ late's.. one acct closed by them..etc. Well I surely lucked out when I called them regarding getting the proper account number on the closed account. I was transferred to a account specialist who proceeded to spend an hour on the phone with me and get all the dates I needed taken  off..I sat on the phone while she said she deleted them al from all three credit bureaus. Could this really be true? I sure hope so! Anyway, I have the other letters ready to mail on Monday.

My next step is attempting to pay down balances. I have been really trying and expect to be under 9% in 2 months. I am at 365% now BIF improvement from the 92% my credit fico showed 2 months ago. I also took myself off of 2 accounts that I was authorized user on that were at about 90% utilized and rather new (last 2 yrs) accounts. My history is 13 years so I figured taking me off these newer accounts with high balances was a good move. Am I right?

Moving  to collections..... I have 4 small medical accounts I would like to work on. I have opted out of the three CB's but not from my current creditors. I was a bit worried if I send my gw letters the same time I attempt to opt out one thing may hold up the other. Is this paranoid? Should I wait to pre-hippa the medical collections a bit for my opt outs to kick  in?   okay...LASTLY Smiley Happy On my other collections that are NOT paid in full...there are a few that should fall off early fall, but I need to get an auto loan before that. Is there a way to make an offer for partial pymt and getting them taken off credit reports, or is it always a paid in full situation or nothing?

Okay..off to work to make more overtime to pay off more debt (I'd whistle if I couldSmiley Happy   Happy Easter everyone!

Re: Opting out time frame

Welcome to the forums!

Those AU accounts were dragging down your UTI, so it was prudent to remove those. As far your collections, it sounds like you've already started to HIPAA process on those, there are others on the board who are more knowledgeable than I on that process.  You definitely want to opt out with your current creditors for the same reason you opt out with the CRAs, to prevent them from selling information about your credit history.  Therefore, you should also opt out with all creditors with which you are current.  As far as getting old collections deleted, that's what we call a pay for delete, or PFD, where you offer the creditor payment in exchange for deleting the entry from your report.  You want to make sure the statute of limitations on those accounts have expired before offering them, even though they are due to fall off in a few months.

Re: Opting out time frame

Hello!

Congrats on your score raise.

Question - was there a specific backdoor number you called at Cap1?

Also - what is Opt out?

I have 2 small medical collections that I paid that are on my credit report. What is the hippa letter - is there a way to get them removed? Is there a link somewhere with this info?

Thank you

Re: Opting out time frame

Thanks all! As far as Capital One went..I just called the number on my current credit card planning on asking for old account number so I could start sending letters. I was transferred to an account specialist who said she would help. I don't know if this really is true, as I have not pulled credit reports to check ( I am sure its to soon).

The latest thing I am excited about...I got an email from Experian that my verification results were in (I questioned a few collections and submitted verification requests direct from their website before I knew we shouldn't do that..lol) I signed in and 5 accounts ALL MEDICAL were listed as deleted. Really? I am in shock and leary. Experienced myfico'ers...are they just going to put them back on next month? What's up with that? LOL

Next I emailed Afni CA as I read some others had done. I got an email back in 2 hours saying the collection would be deleted from all 3 credit bureaus.

Whoa! I can't wait for the dust to settle and see where I stand after all this. I guess my next step should be to ask for verification of those collection accounts deleted from experian at the other two credit bureaus, yes?
