I have had a $1300 collection on my credit reports since 2015 for an old Verizon bill I did not realize I had until it went to collections (paid my final bill in full and then they apparently tacked on some equipment fees afterwards). The collection agency was Trident.
I called them today to request a PFD and I was told that they only report as Paid and they do not delete anything. I decided to call back and speak to another rep and re-explained my situation. I was expecting another No but to my surprise she said "Well as a one time courtesy I can arrange for this to be deleted from the credit agencies".
Got my confirmation email earlier today and I am expecting this to be removed in a couple weeks. Persistence really does pay off!!
