Paid Off all Debt

I recently paid off all credit card and hospital debt. I had $4K debt on a Capital One Platinum card and $1,500 on a Macy's Visa. I also had $200 in hospital bills.

My credit scores:

615 Experion

646 Equifax

657 TransUnion

My cards:

Macy's 0/2600 (closed by grantor) - Paid in Full on 6/15

Capital One 0/4000 (account restricted - essential inactive, but still open) - Paid in Full on 10/25

I am now debt free, but have no useable credit cards. How long will it take for my credit scores to be well enough to apply for a decent credit card (not CreditOne or any Secured cards)? This is assuming all bills are paid in full and on time.

Re: Paid Off all Debt

Do you have any open credit acounts reporting to the credit bureaus, such as an auto loan?  Time itself doesn't really do much to improve credit. Keep in mind that everytime you apply for a new credit card that will lower your scores.  Is there a particular reason you don't want a secured card?  I've had one through US Bank for a little over a year and I like it - it does it's job, reports to all 3 credit bureaus and is helping to slowly but surely improve my credit standing.

My credit was pretty much stuck in the 550 range for about 2 years because I wasn't actively working on improving my credit. Even though I bought and paid off a car, it was financed in house with the dealership so nothing was reported to the credit bureaus. By the time I went to buy a different car it was as if nothing had changed in my credit history at all.
