Paid Tax Lien

Does anyone know how long a paid tax lien is supposed to stay on your credit report?  I have a few but the oldest is dated 01/03/2008 and it's still on all 3 of my reports.

I just feel like losing some of my liens will give my credit score a jump.

7 yrs from date paid in most states there are some differences in NY & CA that I am aware of

So should I dispute it with the credit bureaus???
